R4 is here, it works. I can short review any DS game ever, now.
First up, I played the beginning of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, and it is fun just like everyone says. There are some cutscenes that show something happening, right up front they have a murder where a lady is bashed in the head with a small statue, and they show you the killer, a guy with a mole right in the middle of his forehead, so clearly you're supposed to be able to identify him. Then you get some training in how to play, which sort of explains itself. First, they start with a guy who the killer pinned the murder on, who happens to be Wright's friend and is a total fuckup on the stand, going nuts and shit. It is funny, mainly because you know it's your first case and you can't lose it because of a goofy character cutscene. You can't really help him here, he just buries himself. Next up is the "witness" who found the body, who is the killer. He says he was bloo bloo whatever, door to door newspaper sales. There is evidence and circumstances, like there was a blackout in the neighborhood, which you get a paper thing as for and can use to contradict the guy's statement about hearing the time from a TV that was playing and etc. So you basically look for any part of the guy's testimony that you have little evidence pieces with scraps of information which you can use to contradict him. Then you fuckin blast him with it and watch him flip the fuck out. YOUR STORY'S FULLA HOLES AND I'M GONNA BEAT YOUR ASS IF I CAN'T GET TO THE TRUTH (WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR!!!!!!!) The killer gets so mad at one point that he dramatically whips his hairpiece off and throws it right in Wright's face who just looks like ~_~;;;;;; at that point. But the case is not yet over! Eventually you do some more presenting evidence and pressuring him about his testimony and you can scroll back and forth to specific text boxes of his testimony to specifically refute. At the end it wraps up like a Matlock case where the killer is revealed right in the court room, as if. And perhaps you will be defending all innocent people and uncovering all guilty people. But since this is a game where you figure out mysteries and shit, it works well, and is funny, although at the same time has some serious story stuff (there are more murders which are kind of shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!! gasp), but not so much so that the game gets all self serious. Yet. I dunno, I'm just starting the second case. :(
