Re: It's October: SCARY MOVIE MONTH: RECAP and FINAL TALLY (WK1)

The Howling -seen it numerous times, wanted one that definitely did not suck.
I think I must have seen it on TV before because I definitely did not remember parts of it. But it's pretty good. They certainly did rely heavily on bladders before they had CGI. Gross! 3/4
Pulse -Never heard anything about this, the ghosts on the back cover look promising, though!
Stupid, but good looking monsters. Kind of like The Grudge that way. So far, The Ring has been the only really good Japanese horror film remake. But watchable enough. 2/4
Slither -Somebody here said this sucked, and my sister whose taste I share said it ruled. It looks like it might be like Night of The Creeps, which was awesome.
Not awesome, but decent. If I had never seen Night of The Creeps I probably would have liked it more... that was way better. This was maybe *too* reflexive and in-jokey. They seemed to be going for a Tremors vibe, which is a good idea but they didn't nail the tone: you can only lampoon rednecks so far before they're not likable characters. Wouldn't watch it again but enjoyed it while it was on and would recommend it to genre fans. 3/4
Kingdom Hospital (the complete series in two boxes) -This looked bad from the previews, but I'm pretty openminded and forgiving when it comes to horror movies/shows viewed in October. The only thing that would suck would be if it was boring. It has Claire's dad from Heroes in it, which is a good sign, but it also seems to have a total hardon for Twin Peaks, which is probably not a good sign.
Only made it through the pilot and decided not to continue. It appeared to have only a small amount of Claire's Dad and a high amount of Andrew McCarthy, as the hero figure, which is totally fucked up. They also did not nail the tone of their obvious heir Twin Peaks. "It's the damnedest thing... there was a fish in the coffeepot!": Funny. German shepherd thinking out loud in a hokey Arnold Schwarzenegger accent: Not funny. Also: the pilot obsessively played and played "Red Dragon Tattoo" in a failed attempt to seem contemporary or something, but it didn't work in that way and it didn't work with the scenes it was in either. 1/4 Now I need another 5 movies.
