Re: Build like, uh, three pieces of my computer. Please.

So uh I guess the problem before wasn't my five year old install of win2k, it was that my RAM was fried. Anyway, I'd like to replace the mobo while I'm at it. And maybe the processor. Could someone please recommend a processor/mobo and at least 1G of RAM for $500 or less? Not having to use an IDE card for my four hard drives: this would be nice.
I used to be really up on everything -- aside from the PCjr and the 286 I built every PC in my immediate family's possession that came after. This was all the same until I got some advice and help from Motherhead. Shit worked beautifully even though I had to put aside some beliefs that served me well in previous years but were now sadly outdated, such as, "It's not necessary to spend over $100 on a power supply." These days, it definitely is. So unfortunately, while I would love to help, I'm too stupid to be of any assistance these days. I just haven't been keeping up. I used to consult a website at http://www.jncs.com/ to quickly see which parts (CPU, mobo, RAM) were good together. But scanning old posts on here for what people were enjoying a year ago might also be a good option. (The Google Search function should help out in that respect.) Sorry to leave you hanging: I would just hate to recommend something that I haven't personally tried, this long out of the loop. That being said, I can look up the specifics of the CPU & motherboard I'm currently running and list those. They have been rock solid (thanks, MH!) and I bet you could get them both for under $500 at this point. the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!
