No no no no no.

FF3 was absolutely no help in this department.
Is this worth putting on a handheld and playing? As in, not for nostalgia value but because it still holds up in whatever regard today. I never played it when it was new and I've always wondered if I've missed out. ICJ
Of course not. RPGs, especially console RPGs and REALLY ESPECIALLY Final Fantasy are obsolete. Regular games with actual gameplay beyond "shuffling through scrolldown menus with a console pad" nowadays can and often do have just as much plot, epicness, and character development as the average jap console RPG. The only advantage those games had back in the day was sheer volume of time suck. (And theoretically a better plot). When you were a little kid and could count on maybe 1 or 2 game A YEAR, the 100 hour OCD RPG was a much better choice than the 10 hour wolverine's revenge. Go play Deus Ex again. Turn on the max skill cheat to eliminate its biggest flaw. A more interesting plot than a thousand hours of anime and actual tense and interesting gameplay with AN EPIC GLOBESPANNING PLOT THAT CHARTS THE FALL OF AN EMPIRE!!!! If you're into stat-boosting OCD, fucking Diablo 2 has a straightforward and satisfying system of combat compared to FF's "navigating the start menu using the keyboard alone" aproach. FF Tactics was neato, but X-Com was a zillion times better. Hell, even back in the Nintendo and SNES day games like Crystalis and Secret of Mana had all the good parts of Final Fantasy games and replaced the boring menu combat with Movable, controllable sprites. There is no reason planescape: torment couldn't have its dialouge trees included with a 3rd person action engine or a 1st person "elder scrolls" perspective these days. Aside from plot, is there anything to enjoy about Infinity engine games? No. There is no reason to sink your life into another shitty overlong and banal NES RPG, especially paying money for the privilege.
