Re: TurboTwist: arrived, installed

HOWEVER, I wonder if it doesn't spin enough. Remember the Tornado that spun for minutes? The TurboTwist spins for half a second.
That's what I was seeing out of the enromous Tron spinner on a real Tron (non-Discs) machine I encountered a couple weeks ago. I understand that Arkanoid had a similar weighty... meaty feel. I sort of got what I paid for with the spinner I bought, unfortunately.
Did you try raising the "digital speed" number in the analog control settings? After tweaking that and putting the sensitivity at the highest it could go before incuring backspin, I was able to perfectly match the Arkanoid feel, as well as I remember it. I can definitely reach both edges with a 180 turn.
Yeah, I had given that a shot at the time but I think the answer is clear: for $35 you simply cannot get the kind of unit that you'll truly be happy with. It didn't help that I stupidly tried to disassemble mine in order to get it into my box. I fucked it up, fucked it up BAD. A friend of mine once spilled juice on his original Gravis Gamepad. He then cursed Gravis for years because of how shitty his resulting gamepad was. Is doing so crazy? Normally yes, but Gravis is one of the worst companies ever so actually in that case, no. But I don't want to trash the EZ Arcade guy's work. He couldn't help it if a dipshit bought it and didn't realize that the knob came off with a small screw and that taking the entire thing apart wasn't freaking necessary. But your success with a mightier spinner gives me great hope. I have my eye on that push-pull one we mentioned earlier and I'm glad that MAME can co-exist quite nicely with the higher quality ones. My main hangup right now is actually what I like to call the "Robotron Affair." Robotron used joysticks that were almost completely like the red knob/ball sticks you see on Ms. Pac-Man. Except that Robotron had a longer shaft and -- Christ all this talking about shafts and knobs is making it hot in here. Do you mind if I take off my shirt? Anyway, I played Robotron on that Williams multi-game monstrosity and the twin joysticks there sucked. Nobody I know of is making the correct Robotron sticks so I have to make a decision on just what to do. Normally I wouldn't give a shit about just one game but Robotron is a game worth caring about, I suppose. ICJ
