As a pointless aside, Hotline was probably the nadir of file sharing
At least from what I've used. These motherfuckers would set up Hotline servers, often times on their very FREE college connections (you needed their IP to connect, so you could trace it if you wanted), AND THEN CHARGE YOU FOR ACCESS. Nigga, WHAT? "This server/internet connection costs a lot of money to maintain." Fuck you, asshole. Don't go amassing a boatload of stolen software/music/whatever and then be such an unimaginable dick that you're going to charge people $5-10 (or fucking $30 -90 for "premium" access [and sometimes these rates were monthly]) for access. And what killed me is that there were retards out there who were willing to pay for it. Jesus fucking christ. At first, Hotline wasn't all that terrible because not a lot of people knew about it. But then as it became popular, it was virtually impossible to find a single server that wasn't 'upload to download' or a pay server. Servers that were free public access ened up having like 250 people in a queue, so it could be over a week before your download even started. That is, if you didn't get disconnected or the server didn't restart.
