Re: RomCenter

I'm also deleting early "sets" of games that have multiple sets. Can anyone (ICJ) think of why I'd need set 1 and set 2 of a game when I can play set 3, which is the latest? Like, maybe I'd want to play set 2 because there was a bug in that particular version that I'd want to see? If that's the best argument, then fuck all that and let's keep the paring rolling.
Right, the bug thing is the main deal. I suppose Gauntlet and the like have their two-player and four-player versions there, of course. Oh, and there may be a separate ROM set if the cocktail/environmental/cockpit version of the game is supported. However, I think that the dev team eventually decided that, rather than have a 8KB file for Polybius v1.0 and an 8KB file for Polybius v2.0, they could change the v2.0 file to only be the differences between it and version 1.0. Resulting in a savings of like 7 entire kilobytes! This means that if you want the bug fixed (i.e. later) version on your system you need to carry both zip files around. In your above example, I do believe that you'd be safe if you had set 1 and set 3 on your system. If you just had set 3 MAME probably wouldn't allow you to play it. All the Pacman games need puckman.zip available, for instance. pacman.zip is just made up of those changed ROMs from puckman.zip. ICJ
