Re: Vodka and Red Alert Mountain Dew?

Against a decent pilot how often SHOULD you be hitting him from an AA site? Is batting .500 acceptible? Before answering, remember that an army will often control 3+ AA sites on a map, plus there are two other enemy jets and maybe mobile AA. Should a guy who sits in a stinger site all game have a similar score to someone in a tank? To a pilot? These are sincere questions.
Your experience seems to be different, but... Even without flares, stinger missiles couldn't hit a jet at more than the slightest angle to them. In the case of a head on when the missiles could hit, the pilot could just pop flares to gain those 5 seconds of invincibility and blow the stinger site to hell. Hence stinger sites were useless waste of time deathtraps. Compare this with the near 100% hit rate of laser guided bombs that kill any vehicle in one hit, vehicles that get no flares. In the presence of a halfway decent enemy pilot, trying to move an APC or tank between flags was suicide on maps like Oman. If stingers were one-third as accurate as those air to ground missiles then there wouldn't have been a problem. Better solutions would have been: -Increased stinger accuracy with the stipulation of increased lock-on time -Reduced bomb capacity for jets -Guided jet missiles restricted to air targets only, making that plane a pure air superiority/strafing vehicle and leaving the bombing to the other plane. -Slight increase in stinger accuracy so they could hit aircraft at a 30-45 degree angle or less, coupled with flares that, instead of making a lock completely impossible, would merely throw missiles off enough so that it'd take a flare plus hard turn to shake a bird off, which sounds just about right according to the REELISM model of jets > meat.
