Best TV of 2005 and Adult Swim, plus FoK
I couldn't pick a good TV forum that fits pretty well with TV at large, but just in case you wondered if there was ever anything good on, this guy pretty much nailed it. Especially The Wire, which is on DVD, in reruns, and coming back next year for a fourth season. Outside of Alderman's list, I watch a lot of cartoons in the baseball offseason. I see South Park if it's on (not like my TV is doing anything else at 10pm on Wednesdays), and I try to see a few episodes of any new show Adult Swim puts on, which is pretty easy since you can watch them on their web site if you can't be bothered to stay up until 2AM Monday morning. We tend to get the good tiny fraction of anime here in the states, which should scare the shit out of anyone who's seen Pilot Candidate, and I rate it from terrible (InuYasha, One Piece) to enh (Naruto) to watchable (Rahxephon) to Will Buy On DVD Because It's Fun To Watch But I Don't Know What The Fuck Is Going On (Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist, That episode of Ghost in the Shell where the bug robots become self aware and discuss Descartes..."Episode 15, Machine Deserantes"?) Should I be rating the American-written anime the same way? I have all of the Futurama and Family Guy DVDs, and it's good to hear Futurama might be getting renewed because of the DVD sales. I like Aqua Teen Hunger Force well enough, but I'm not sure I'd ever watch it if I owned the DVDs. Small bits of that just seem to be the best way to watch the show. Harvey Birdman is good, will they ever make more? DVD - Futurama, Family Guy Watchable - Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force enh - Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, Garbage - Home Movies, 12 Oz Mouse, Stroker & Hoop ...and I can't tell if "Lucy: Daughter of the Devil" is any good because they only show it once a month. To the point: Whoever greenlighted Adult Swim's "Perfect Hair Forever" needs to be shot. It seems to be aiming to be a spoof of anime, but there's nothing there. I've seen a lot of anime, so if there are snarky in-jokes I'm more likely to catch them than not. You spend a little time watching anime and the good (It's pretty clear that the anime-inspired visual style of Boondocks is produced at the same animation shop as the surprisingly entertaining and hip hop-inspired Samurai Champloo) becomes as easy to spot as the bad (The stupidly popular Naruto is Dragonball Z with higher-class pictures). /jeep/ ...FoK: Adult Swim wants music for its interstitials. You are the man for the job.
