Re: Gamefaqs disagrees with you

There was nothing about this game's engine that brings anything new to the table. How much did it cost them to clumsily reinvent the wheel? My guess, not as much as a Source license. The entire game would have worked better as a HL2 Mod.
But then they wouldn't be able to license their own engine as a poor man's alternative to whatever Id or Cliffy B. (and now Valve) are peddling, which is what Monolith has been shooting for with Lithtech since Blood 2.
Shogo actually, they were pimping the engines from go. Although Tron 2.0 and AvP2 didn't entirely suck (both lithtech licenses), it's a bold new world where the CryTek engine nearly snooped Source and the Doom3 engine is considered too little for too much. Unreal2 is everywhere and Unreal3 is supposed to make everything before it practically obsolete. If Monolith wanted the "Inexpensive" license business, there are various teams of Russian and Eastern Europeans already looking to compete with far better products. If FEAR was going to be Monolith's new engine showcase they screwed the pooch. Remember the "puzzle" in the 3rd act of FEAR where you have to flood the busted catwalk chamber and then hop the CRATES over? HL2 made that a compelling and almost frustrating mini-game based on physics. This was more like playing 1998's Sin with better graphics. Somewhere a guy named Jakov is snickering. I still like the blood though, playing last night I did a grenade lay-up on 3 guys on a catwalk and when i was underneath it they actually had the blood STREAMING down Monty Python Style. I found this oddly pleasing.
