You might need pistols equipped to do it (either that or you just can't fire while surfing without the pistols). Choosing a style to start: Trickster: The most immediately useful skill. Easy dodging with minimal effort. While it's very helpful for beginners, it will actually spoil you if you rely on it. Very useful in the short term, if you want to prepare for the longterm you'll learn to master the standard dodging move instead. It'll take more effort, but it's just as effective as trickster once you do, and it won't take up a style. Gunslinger: Showy, but nothing useful. Swordmaster: My personal favorite. You get all the most crazy, flashiest moves in the game (twirling the sword everywhere then planting it into the ground and spinning around it like a pole), and some of them are actually useful and practical to boot. My main reason for loving it though is that you get more moves for the electric guitar. This is THE style if you want to ramp up your combo meter and look awesome at the same time. Royal Guard: The most boring style in the game and the hardest to master, but any expert will tell you it's the most powerful once you do. In fact it's overpowered and you can block almost any attack in the game with the right timing. But since a block button in a DMC game is sacrilege, I just avoid it. You can shoot your combo meter right up to max just by blocking a couple attacks. Boring, cheap, very hard to master. Avoid. Quicksilver: Slow down time yet Dante moves at same speed. Would be useful if it didn't draw from your devil gauge, which means you'll only get about 10 seconds of it at the very most. You can unlock a costume that gives you unlimited devil gauge, at which point it becomes the best style in the game. Otherwise it sucks. Doppleganger: Receive an AI controlled partner for about 15 seconds at the most as it draws from your devil gauge. Pretty worthless. The only noteworthy feature is that a second player can take control of your doppleganger. Coupled with the unlimited devil trigger costime, it's almost like 2 player co-op. [/quote]
