I can't stand seeing the models head jerk back in response to a direct head shot

1. Is the inaccuracy still in effect in iron sights mode? The crosshair disappears so it's kind of hard to tell.
I don't know exactly what you mean here. I think it makes it a little more acurate but generally works as a limited zoom.
2. Maybe this is an SB question, but do you aim the top of the sight at the enemy, or where the sight meets the gunbarrel?
I've been using the top of the sight in the game.
or what, but it feels like BF1942 again with the feeling that you're "directing harm" at the enemy more than blowing them away. I didn't get this with BF:V, but it feels like it's creeping back here.
I went right from recently starting BF1942 to BF2 just now, so it seems pretty great to me. I know exactly what you mean. I've gotten my ass kicked by medics bringing back a stupid support guy with full health/armor so many times. I'd like to see a damage tweak, hopefully they're doing something like that.
BF:V seemed to eliminate bullets dropping over distance, something that made sniping ungodly difficult in BF:1942, so maybe that's it (would explain the seeming weakness in sniping here).

the reimplementation of gravity acting on bullets,
They eliminated scope drifting in this game, if that's what you're talking about. I don't know about gravitational pull though. Sniping just seems like it's minimal damage except for head shots, with the upgraded sniper rifle this seems the same, even though you can drop a car with a good shot from it.
