Re: Far Cry had flaws that made people hate it?
I played substantial portions of this game just like Thief by using the SD5. The main problem is that, just like in Thief, unexpected encounters fuck you up, because in terms of accuracy and damage the SD5 is the worst gun in the game. You can evade people who have found you, it just involves going a long ways and being very patient. The fact that the guards are twitchier when you come back (because someone was just shooting at them) makes it more realistic and, importantly, more fun. You Trigen are not immune to stealth. It's true that they're very difficult to sneak up on, but it's not impossible. I get very annoyed at games that I find difficult for reasons I think are stupid (I almost kicked my tv over during the flying lessons in San Andreas, for example.) Far Cry was hard because its bad guys were crack shots who didn't forget about you when you ducked out of sight. Those are both great reasons for a game to be hard, and again, I found it hard to be frustrated even in sections I played over many times, because there were always new ways to try to get the job done.
