Re: I don't even remember writing half this stuff -_0

For some reason, most of these recent types of replies have been about, of all things, the crystal shard. Was it just some fluke that it was totally useless in my game? The thing barely did more damage than the laser sword to organic targets (I even jacked my exotic weapon skill up to 4), and hardly any damage to metallic targets. I just jacked up my strength and the wrench was more than enough for most of the game, for free.
I thought the crystal shard was pretty useless. But it was the entry level weapon in the exotic chain, while the laser sword was as some high level in the energy chain. The energy chain apart from the laser sword was shit. The other weapons in the exotic chain were really useful in the Many if you saved up all your worms from day 1.
I can't find the parts where I said it was too hard (or scaerey!), was it somewhere between the too easy and too boring claims? Fans of games with retarded attempts at "realism" always want to turn things into a highbrow dick measuring contest since they think their game playing skills somehow carry over into real life, or at least makes them twice as smart as people who just want to have fun with games. "Run along and play your "Quake", boy. You can't even CLEAN your guns in that game, psssh" Maybe the review should just be changed to "A clunky game with one redeeming quality: a great atmosphere that wears out after an hour or two". Isn't it about time for another Xenosaga complaint?
I think it was a really good game in its time. It doesn't hold up as well as some people claim. Back this winter I was saving up for a new video card and decided to play some old games for a month. SS2 wasn't as good as I remembered. Baldur's Gate and PS:Torment were still awesome. Some of the things you hate I'm ok with. Respawning monsters -- so what? It doesn't feel unrealistic, and I never had one spawn right behind me. I think there is some game code to prevent them spawning if you're in the same room. It's only a problem in conjunction with the degrading weapons (not a bad idea but they break too fast), and it gives you a reason to more faster. The "one step forward two steps back" objectives are no different than any other set of dumb game objectives. Skills arefine in concept but they went overboard and made too many things skill dependent. It was a good game that deserves it's "underground classic" status because it was influential in making the FPS a deeper game. Caltrops seems to prefer an uninspired "me too" game to one with original idea that doesn't reach perfection.
