Re: Coen theory, shot to pieces

Miller's Crossing I kept seeing bits and pieces of this, I didn't understand what was going on. When I worked in a video store I brought it home one night, watched it all the way through, and that made all the difference. This is their best film by far, better than any other two of their films combined. With the name recognition they get now, if they released this movie today it would sweep the oscars. As it is this is one of those not-so-hidden gems people will still be watching long after Raising Arizona is forgotten.
This is the Coen film everyone seems to forget, except the people who love it. I doubt it would sweep the Oscars (the Oscars? Who the fuck cares about them?) but yeah, this film is terrific. It probably doesn't get the attention it deserves because it differs so much in tone from a lot of the "wackier" films that have made their name, and John Turturro and Jon Polito get pushed off into smaller roles so it's not as instantly recognizable as a Coen production.
