Re: STAR WARS TIMELINE BEEFS

<h1>TIMELINE BEEFS</h1> At the beginning of Episode 4 someone gives Vader a hard time, saying he's got a "sad devotion to an ancient religion". In light of what happened 20 years earlier -- Jedi Knights policing the galaxy and kicking ass on a level surpassed only by their reputation for kicking ass -- this statement is ludicrous. Of course Vader then force chokes him, so I guess it's a ludicrous statement regardless of Episodes 1 to 3. In general, people in Episode 4 act like they're almost unaware of the Jedi and outright disbelieve the force, regardless of age. It's like things that happened in 1985 being not only forgotten but questioned. Shit, remember the launch of New Coke? No... In fact, you're a deluded liar for suggesting it happened.
Maybe that's the crazy 1984 propeganda machine at work. Jedi = sad ancient religion and not Jed = guys who almost killed the Emperor back in the day. Why didn't anyone tell Luke he could absorb and shoot back the force lightning with his lightsaber? Or his hand? (Maybe you need to be a 10th degree Jedi blackbelt for that, but still.) Or even mention the force lightning trick? Yoda kinda hung him out to dry, didn't he?
Maybe because he was too impatient to finish his training? Re: FSBT's points - he's right in that it's a failure of storytelling, but with a little elbowgeek it can be hashed out. After the Emperor assumes the fuck out of control of the galaxy, it's officially uncool to talk about the <s>Juden</s> Jedi, and whatever revised history he deems appropriate is likely adopted. In fact, any suggestion that some person or group has access to powers rivaling those of the Emperor and his chief lieutenant is probably dealt with quickly and harshly. Combine that with the fact that the Jedi were beyond the peak of thier power in the prequel timeline, it's not toatally insane to think there would be people who either weren't familiar or had reason to play dumb. Not that it makes it any less retarded to get snippy with one of the two <i>known</i> Sith remaining, unless my theory is closer to home and that people are so far removed from the Jedi era that they really don't believe in all that mumbo-jumbo. Really, Lucas was just making shit up as he went along. The only reason the officer guy taunts Vader is because villains are stupid.
