Why yes, you are missing something.

blah blah blah nearly CRT quality. blah blah blah
I'm confused.
Progress. Unless you have a really high-end CRT (Ray!), there is no reason to want to live with a hot, noisy (the sound you think that are not hearing is the persistent high-frequency whine that is making you docile and complacent) box that takes up anywhere from 1/5 to 1/3 of your desktop. Also: why declare the 25 year old Trinitron the last word in display image quality? What's wrong with you? Don't you like computers? Okay yes, LCD through VGA is sometimes less than impressive, but then comes progress. DVI-D. DVI-D more than levels the image quality playing field. My first experiences with DVI-D was when I connived work to score for my use an Apple 23" studio display. Every moment I work with that fucker is pure joy. Apple is indeed in the hardware business and the quality of their displays is evidence of that but as we know, gaming on Macs is queer and wrong. I wanted the same ocular orgasmic splendor with my windows box but the monitor I selected had to be more affordable and also have pixel response (sco LCD equivalent to refresh) fast enough to handle the demands of high-end gaming at least as well as a CRT. There are several decent choices; Sharp, Sony and Samsung all have quality LCDs that could do the job, but the Viewsonic brings all the right technologies together in concert and the price/performance mark is spot on. My alternate choice was this, it's from a German company called Formac (gah!) and they do come highly recommended but I was never to able to actually get to dick around with one. Visit a good electronic store that carries the VX2000 and make sure the locals have the right interface connected, some seem to think VGA is the only way to get signal. Make them quit out of the locked in bullshit demo and then use the computer for a while in a manner closer to how you use your own. The differences are not subtle.
PS, not all the new ATI cards have DVI-D outputs.
All the ones that matter do. M|H
