Re: Mock me, for I suck at quoting. RETRY

Does that Chrono Trigger endorsement also apply, in any way, to Chrono Cross (I have it in my "waiting to be played pile")? Probably not. Also, I am not sure what sort of linearity it is that you are advocating. Does that mean you like FFX's style of doing things? That you're entirely opposed to, say, Planescape and Fallout having set plot points but also a lot of freedom in between (I doubt it, just wanted to be clear)?
Depends on the game. If linearity makes sense and is executed well, then I have no problem with it. FFX was about going along on someone else's journey, so linearity made sense, and a non-linear design would have meant a HUGE graphical downgrade for the game. PS and Fallout work differently, but are also PC games... there's somewhat more flexibility there, but PC RPGs are notorious for wandering around with nothing to do. (See: Morrowind, every MMORPG). Chrono Trigger did the best job. I liked Chrono Cross more than FABIO obviously did, but I get the feeling he just hates characters prettier than he is. It has problems, but no more so than any other 32-bit RPG. Biggest problem is that it has too many weak-ass characters, but if FF6 could get away with a menagerie mediocrity (with a few exceptions, but fewer than most would argue) then Chrono Cross certainly can. It's no Chrono Trigger, but then again, what the hell is?
