FF6 overrated?
Sure the world of ruin was a dissapointment, but so was pretty much everything past hour 6 in FFVII, the entire FFVIII experience ("trying" doesnt cut it. System Shock 2 "tried"), and from what I hear the end of FF9. Here's the thing though, I totally agree that loving FF2 (4, whatever) is pure nostaltia. If I try going back to that I just cant do it, it's boring and unpolished by today's standards. However I can keep going back to playing FF6 at any time and still love it. That's something FF7-10 cannot do (well, I can play the midgard part of FF7 repeatedly). That counts for something. Here's my little console RPG craving that hasnt been satisfied since FF6, if you're going to put a ton of people in the party, can you at least let us use most of them? Pretty gay to be running around with a group of 8-12, yet when a battle comes along, it's only 3 or 4 of you doing the fighting. I loved those parts in FF6 where you had multiple parties you switched between. Unless you were a total power gamer, in FF7-9 everyone just stuck with the same members and ignored the rest, leaving them completely atrophied as the game went on (that's one thing I loved about Chrono Trigger, all the characters leveled up together and no one became obsolete). FF10 came close to this, but still no multiple parties at once. How about letting ALL of my party battle at once? Can the processor not handle a few more combatants going through the idle combat stance animation? Especially retarded is strategy RPGs having you venture around with a group of 20, yet limited you to about 5 per battle. There is no excuse not to let you use everyone. If you can handle chess, you can handle a fight with a dozen or two combatants.
