Re: Saturn L-Wagon = HORRIBLE in snow.

This put me in the weird situation of seeing that I was going to hit the guy in front of me a good 5 seconds before impact, since I was only going like 10 mph, but couldn't reduce my speed. SOLUTION: drove up on the median. But honestly, what the fuck?
You're just thinking about it wrong. Those systems are in place to give you complete driving and steering control at all times. In this case I'll just have to trust your storytelling that it was a ridiculous low speed and whatnot, but the ability to control your car's direction at all times in snow and ice is fantastic. The fact that ABS does increase your stop times is something to be aware of, but the fact that you'll never spin or fishtail makes up for it. One spin out on the freeway (*!!!) is all you'll need to realize the greatness of TCS and ABS. * Late at night, very bad weather, not many on the road. I ended up on the shoulder FACING THE WRONG WAY. Unscathed through pure luck.
I understand how great the systems are... when they work the way they're supposed to. In this particular instance, regular braking would have been fine, but the traction control had some immiscible effect with the ABS and effectively disabled the brake pedal without doing anything to make up for it. That can't be what they intended to happen in that situation.
