What's to understand?

Huh? You said the revision has increased the power of the Assassin class, but you want to change it from the revision version more to make it even more powerful?
The new rules have them knowing more spells and casting them more frequently. They now have the ability to hide in plain sight (I think this is new, I don't have my old DM's guide handy). So the class is more powerful than before. Why did they do that? Assuming that the assassin class was underpowered before, and assuming that I don't like what they did to make them tougher, what should I do?
I see no reason why you couldn't use the old version. I agree that having a spontaneous caster with Int as a primary stat is odd, but I also think having a generic assassin class with spells is odd to begin with. If you want to remove spellcasting entirely, I'd suggest upping the skill points by 2 per level and/or up the HD to a d8 as a simple fix. Alternatively, you could just allow the PC to take Death Attack as one of his Rogue special abilities and just not use the PrC, since that's its core ability.
Yes, I am thinking along these lines. Specifically, I want to retain the class in some form, I don't want to up the hit dice, extra skill points might be an excellent idea, and I was also thinking about giving them some extraordinary and/or supernatural powers in addition to their limited (old style) casting. I'm still working on it.
