All this question/answer foreplay has gotten me so hawt, I watched the E3 video again to cool down but it just made things worse.
The E3 demos don't show many siuations where enemy AI needed to be expanded, I thought. The one scene where you and your crew are advancing down the street to the scaffolding full of combines which you sneak around -- yeah, that was kind of lackluster. However, most other times it seemed like the Combine and Gordon see each other, Gordon takes a shot and kills said Combine. They didn't seem to try to have the longer drawn out confrontations that would've given the AI more chance to react. Did they do this on purpose to hide the flaws?! Unknown. EXCEPT!!!!!!! for the scene where Gordon tries to barricade the entrance but one soldier begins shooting through the windows while the other kicks down the door. Was that scripted? Seems like that would be impossible to script, and it would've been the greatest moment in video games for all time if I didn't watch it fifty times already.
