Re: Starfleet Command games

I was going to bring up Starfleet Battles as the end-all-be-all of accoutancy board gaming. Holy. Wholy mother of spunktacity are there rules for this game. Zounds! Bitter.
That honor would go to certain WWII eastern front games that take up entire rooms with hexagon filled maps, involved hundreds of cardboard counters for each side, and literally took months to play out. If we're just sticking with fantasy/sci-fi stuff, I nominate the Starship Troopers boardgame for work overload.
I nominate Advanced Squad Leader (ASL LOL!).
I dunno. Once my fellow Starfleet Battles faggots and I tried to do a 6 x 3,000 pt game: three guys per side, each with a fleet of 3k points. We spent weeks all salivating and lubricating and mastur... um, cloistered with the books to select our little ships and their intricate loadouts of drones and trading off this upgrade versus that, etc. When it finally came time to play, we had a map about eight feet by six, and we played, I think, two turns over the course of about 6 hours. Then we were bored. I have heard of those East Front games, but never as more than fabled objects of wonder, legends of Brazil-like mires of bureaucracy and paper. Has anyone ever actually attempted to *play* them, I wonder? Did I mention that one guy always wore bow ties and silk shirts and carried a briefcase to school? Yup, that was us, chick magnets all. Good times. Bitter.
