Starfleet Command games

Speaking of Starfleet battles, that was a ridiculously complex game that screamed for a PC version. How are the ones they've released so far? The demo I tried was buggy as hell, and realtime seemed too much for something so complex. I would have been happy with just an exact recreation of the board game with all those tables and crap being automated behind the scenes.
I was going to bring up Starfleet Battles as the end-all-be-all of accoutancy board gaming. Holy. Wholy mother of spunktacity are there rules for this game. Zounds! Sadly, the first game which attempted the rules (Starfleet Command) was pretty crap. I dunno, I expected something different. They did a reasonable job, I guess: they have wild weasels and drones and tractoring and boarding and the shield facings and photon and plasma torpedoes and the Hydrans and so forth, but they force the game to 2-dimensions, which in a board game is okay, but seemed akward in a computer game. Dunno, it might have been too confusing otherwise, but it didn't feel right. The missions were mostly quite empty and dull and very very repetitive, which is bad because there were a wealth of scenarios from the various books that probably could have been pieced together into a campaign or two. If they did a hybrid of that and perhaps that Bridge Commander game, it might have been okay. It's weird, talking about it I can't place my finger on what exactly was wrong (perhaps realtime, as you mention, but then it's been awhile since I played it), but it didn't rock my world like I hoped it would, and of course now I own a Trek game. I feel the gayness saturating me like something very gay and saturating, like maybe pink Vaseline or Carrottop in tights. Bitter.
