Re: Yes, if you put it that way (which I unfortunately did)

...Need for Speed III...
[Monty Python] Run away, run away! [/Monty] I'd rather fellate a porcupine. Which is sad, because I really like the first one. Why can't anyone make a good car game? I thought Driver was okay, if a little generic and arcadey. GTA is nice, but sometimes I want it to be a bit more about the driving and have more open road. I really dug the first couple of Gran Turismos, but now I think it takes too much time to have fun, and I don't dig circuit driving (and thus avoid NASCAR games). I have the graphically lush 3rd one, but after I got the licenses I was done: I in no way felt like trying to earn cash driving a Miata (MX-5): stop putting RPG elements in a damn car simulator. But that's only part of it. The first Need for Speed game is the only game I'm aware of that has long straight-on roads that aren't circuits: namely the beach-side one and the winter mountain one. I dug those levels absolutely hard core, but now you can't find them. I haven't tried the Midnight Club games, but then the marketing campaign seems aimed square at the ricer demographic, and I hate slammed Civics and attendant wannabees from the depths of my bitter, cold heart. I would so fuckin' groove on a game that was more of a cross of GT with GTA: more car, better roads, but with the emphasis on fun rather than grinding out suspension settings. Without my ass as a sensor, it's too much work to pull down lap times in GT (why don't they spare a few damn cycles for some kind of Clippy-character? 'Hi, I see your car pushes like a leaden bitch. Would you like some help?'). Ah well, I should let Kanunori Yamauchi get back to building his encyclopedia of boring ass cars (Daihatsu Cuore coming right up!) rather than work on a decent goddamn game. I don't understand why 'gear head' has become 'accountant'. I think some people love baseball without knowing Willy May's batting average with runners on first and third when facing a right handed pitcher whose first name is Scott, and some people think the fun of cars is driving them. Fuck, I think that's the nerve I hit burning out. Bitter
