ALERT ALERT UTTERLY NON-SUBTLE HINT THAT I BOUGHT A NEW SYSTEM APPROACHING So I um...bought a new system and I was wondering what new games are worth playing before I blow what will still end up being a large wad of dough on new games. I know this is TEH GAYEST FORMUM TOPIC EVAR, but I'd like to know what everyone's playing at the moment. Actually, I don't care if it's old, as long as it's good. MUST CONSUME BDR
Medal of Honor was pretty good - just beat that - and GTA:VC if you don't have it on console. Nothing else, really - mostly waiting for Deus Ex 2 / Thief 3 / Half Life 2 at the moment. --SB
Other people have jarred my memory somewhat - a) I forgot you probably haven't played Morrowind yet. If you haven't, Monty and I are both fans, as are most of the people around here. 'nuff said. b) Planetside was ruined for me because I played the beta very heavily before certain game-changing features broke a lot of the things I'd come to love. I think people who didn't experience that change would still love it, though. Give it a go - it's definitely the closest thing to the 'Quake Armies' Carmack always said he wanted to see done (and it happens to be done very, very well). c) Rise of Nations was a good AOE2 clone. Very respectable effort, but ultimately unsatisfying if you played more AOE2 than one human being can stand beforehand. d) Rainbow Six 3 is a very graphically pleasing shooter, but the singleplayer is just way the fuck too goddamn hard. I didn't have much trouble getting 'silent assassin' on every level of Hitman 2, and I can't begin to level 7 of R6: 3. The multiplayer, much like MOHAA's, is the better half of this game. Add in my other two, you should be busy to the three I'm waiting on come out. If you want a cute little addiction, DAOC's expansion pack adds an entirely new engine with vertex/pixel shaders that looks quite respectable. I happened to have a friend from my old EFNet #everquest group who got me an 'in' into one of the ubar-ubar guilds, so when I feel the need to play anything (I'm not gaming very much lately, now that I'm 'done' with all of the aforementioned games) I blow a couple hours on that. --SB
