Does it matter?

says secret police terrorized all Iraqis working for international press services; says some vanished forever, others disppeared and then surfaced later with tales of being tortured; says one of CNN's Iraqi cameramen was abducted, beaten and horribly tortured; says he is still haunted by story of woman captured by secret police after speaking with CNN on phone; says plastic bag containing her body parts was left on doorstep of her family's home
As scummy as the whole situation is, I was pretty much on the fence about the whole complicity vs otherwise unavailiable access until I read shit like this. You always heard about how brutal the regime was. Here's a guy who knew, but sidestepped his duty as a journalist on the premise of... what? The opportunity to learn about more atrocities he dare not speak of? Don't dodge the issue by pointing fingers at MSNBC or even Fox, besides their obvious incentive as proffesional rivals they are doing what any news agency should do: reporting the news. I would hope any other network without its fingers in the same sticky mess would also speak out against such practices. I won't go as far as to say "I'm never watching CNN again!", but they seriously need to pull the tagline "America's most-trusted news source."
