Yes, it was a test to see what kind of explosion would happen with secondary effects: but by that, I mean the tank had a full load of fuel and shells -- it wasn't additionally packed with TNT or shit like that. Or such is my understanding: I suppose I could confirm it tomorrow. So you could, perhaps rarely, see the like under actual combat conditions, although the footage I've seen collected from IRAQ doesn't seem to indicate that this happened much or at all. To address another point made later, Javelin is fire and forget. In the real world, you probably wouldn't just stand around and watch it fly, unless your opponents are Iraqis and you can you pretty much idle your ass at will. Note that the motor is essentially smokeless, so it's not like a guy in the tank would see jack shit.
