Re: What the hell is with this English-only shit?

See topic. It's bizarre- in an age where any random anime fanboy can mainline his drug of choice accompanied by all the subtitles he can handle, the infinitely larger gamer community gets dubbing and only dubbing. What's worse is that it's the same goddamned medium, and I'm sure any of the programmers here could figure out how to do optional subtitle overlays and multiple soundtracks for movies in games. In-engine stuff couldn't be that much harder, and it's not like the japanese soundtrack doesn't already exist. Even dubtitles would be acceptable. There is no excuse for this. None.
Except for lack of DVD space. At least that's Koei's excuse. I'm almost inclined to believe them since the game itself IS noticably larger than DW3, but still, it's not as if there's a TON of voicework to do here, beyond the occasional "I will prove my might to you!" quip (or my new favorite quote from Cao Cao, "We must nip his ambition in the bud!"). I *really* wish they had kept the Japanese voices and gone with subtitles, because again, I thought the Japanese work in DW3 was really, genuinely good. I still can't believe that Wu kingdom movie clip where Sun Ce and Zhou Yu are engaging in light-hearted banter while beating suckers up. Light-hearted talk of any kind is badly enough out of place in an RoTK game, never mind that it's THAT MUCH WORSE when one of the guys sounds like he only wants to get the fight overwith so that he can resume his professional skateboarding career.
I'd accept the "lack of space" thing, except that we're talking about DVDs here... space for *audio* is a serious issue? Hell, why not just compress it? It might be lossy, but I doubt the fanboys would care much, and doing a single extra soundtrack for cutscenes is no different than... doing a single extra soundtrack for anything else.
