On One's Online Nicks

Ah I should have guessed. Next time ask me for help before you invade germany again. I don't get why people change nicks online, or have more than one*. I mean, you are incognito already, why the extra layer of obfuscation? *people that are insane or have more than one nick because the "real" one was taken already don't count.
Ha ha. What a retarded you are. Do you think I want the people at the anime message boards, whose asses I have been dilligently kissing in order to get the goodies from them, to know about the way I ruin lives and crush websites and infiltrate their chatrooms? FUCK no Blazer, I do not. Do you think I want the people on the math forums and world affairs groups to know about my yaoi fixation and my occult habits? Actually no. The people who follow my literary output? They don't need to know what I really think of them, which is what I talk about on the academic bitch boards. The people here? You probably shouldn't know about my long, long, long, shameful legacy on usenet - over the course of which I changed nicks an average of once every two months. I didn't even want the usenet guys to know about me being the other usenet guys. I don't even want people from one newsgroup to know about my posting history in the other newsgroup. For each nick I'll get at least two new email accounts - one generally accessible, the other reserved for closer associates met using that particular nick - and I dispose of them when I drop the nick. Why? Because it costs nothing to control identities like this, and the benefits are so numerous it strikes me as stupid to do it any other way. Furthermore why the fuck would I want to build up a single "identity" online in the first place? I don't need a history, and you don't need to know it. It boggles my mind that people like Barbie make their real names available so easily - there are a couple people on the forum who maybe know my first name, but I don't think anyone except for this one guy I've been talking to for maybe six years now has my full name. What the fuck do you need with my 1996 posts to rec.arts.woodworking? Why would I even want anyone to associate "Zsenijeim" with "WaterBeaver from the Rolling Stones RockOnline site"? What does having only one nick buy you that's worth having?
