Re: 1-24-2003 Backup

Barbie had a forum backup from January 24th, 2003 which he just sent me. There are several options here with what to do with the data: 1) Don't attempt to integrate it with the new forum. Just post it elsewhere and leave it at that, read-only, somewhere. 2) Integrate it with the new forum and dump all the posts into one forum like "OMM and Caltrops History" or something. 3) Try to matchup the forum ID number with the original post with the forum ID we have currently and get everything directly added to our database and keep dates preserved. I'll try to pick the best solution and implement the transfer. I'll provide some warning if I take the forum down while trying to integrate something. ICJ
Why not put it here? You can do an almost straight dump in - just add sid 2 in the sites table (it actually looks like it's there already) and change the forums to point at it on import. The only problem with this is that the new (old) forum would be writable. Maybe add a read-only flag to the site table? -/ES/-
This assumes post IDs are not unique among sites. I forget if they are or not. I think they might be :( In that case, the pids need to be hiked up by 3000 or so and the pid sequence needs to be updated with the new end value. No biggie. -/ES/-
I asked SB about this. You're right about the pids, but he think's that it shouldn't be too hard regardless. He's going to contact cp about it, so perhaps cp and/or bitter can whip something up.
Yeah, this is pretty stupid-easy to do - practically a one-liner in Perl. If nobody's done it by the end of the week, I'll set aside an hour to take care of it. -/ES/- Before anyone starts fucking with the DB, BACKITUPPLEASE!!!! KTHX
