Re: Xenosaga isn't bad

1) Branching nonlinear ability trees (in this case magic, which is fairly effective)
a total change from Xenogears I see
4) Email
SOLD! Can I also send faxes? MOVE OVER MAJESTIC!
(ok, maybe not standard, but familiar to anybody who's played Front Mission 3, and if you haven't, why the hell not?)
I became extremely bored with FM3 and never finished it. You never got any new weapons or anything to play with: just things to increase your stats. The weapons you use at the end of the game are the exact same as the ones you've used since the beginning, they just did more damage (to enemies with more hitpoints). Also throw in the fact that abilities were activated at random. So much for the "strategy" in strategy role playing game. Give me a sqeuel to FF: Tactics already.
5)Displayed order in battle (this time featuring a "boost" trick where characters can jump to the front of the queue in battle. ATF is well and truly dead, thank god.)
I think I'm getting to the point where I can't stand the usual "Attack/Magic/Item/Run" battle system in every single console RPG; even the better ones like FF10. Present day FABIO wishes his games to have an action based combat system (Star Ocean) or be purely turn based strategic (FF: Tactics).
