Re: how IS Xenosaga anyways?

Actually, you can skip the cutscenes. During the cutscene hit start and it'll pause. (So, no, you don't have to watch it all in one sitting). Hit triangle while it's paused, and it'll skip. Easy. As for cutscenes... I don't get the whining. Pointless and slavish adherence to plotlessness and nonlinearity leads to shit games as easily if not more easily than the inclusion of pretensious long-winded cutscenes and linearity. Witness Saga Frontier. I mean, fuck, Hexen 2 had a hub system and Half-Life was so linear it was practically on rails, but who argues that Hexen 2 is better? If the game sucks, it sucks; it's all about the implementation.
I don't know why but for some reason I actually midly enjoyed Xenogears, sort of like a version of Evangelion that actually managed to tie together all loose ends and have an ending better than two hours of whining with applause. Does xenogears improve on one of the tiny flaws of xenogears? Mainly, the TOTAL LACK OF ANY MEANINGFUL GAMEPLAY WHATSOEVER?
I will attack in reverse order. There's less gameplay and the cutscenes are longer. In Xenogears, the ending was ripped right out of the series ending to Eva. There was Fei (FAY) sitting in a chair under a spotlight. How is that different from Eva? IT ISN'T. Xenogears infuriated me because not only did I have to sit through some of the worst writing, dialogue, and plotting in an RPG, but in between jumping puzzles and the story, the battle system was just repeating your characters strongest attack over and over.
