CONSOLE WARZ

Except for the motorcycles and golf carts, those ruled.
This summer, I think I will buy a console. If GTA:VC is not the holy grail (I already have GTA3 for PC), should I still buy a PS2? What's the XBOX got these days? The DOA: XBV (I hope that's the right initialism) ads have infuriated me against this device, but I could be persuaded. As our local "Owns every console" Sanitario said once, the GC is definately the worst, so unless he retracks that statement, I guess I'm not giving that one a whole lot of attention. Or should I just wait? When does the next console generation drop?
Long time from now. Buy buy buy. Things have changed slightly in that I do play the Gamecube a lot more, but as already mentioned to death, they're all party games. The Gamecube is definately looking even more grim now that Sega Sports and EA Sports both cancelled all titles and said they're through with the system. Don't buy a system that huge companies are cancelling games on. Things have also changed for the Xbox in that the games library has been looking worse and worse (recent low light: DOAXBV, recent highlight: Splinter Cell), but the Xbox Live has proven that Nintendo and Sony completely missed the boat on this killer-app-in-waiting. One great Xbox Live title is all it takes to make this system worth mentioning as a contender to your Sony decision. Capcom fighting fans already have their killer-app in the form of "Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO". Fucking online Street Fighter! Hockey fans have NHL 2K3 online. But the other Live games like Mechassault and MotoGP are far too nichey to make any huge dent. Halo 2? Zseni's mentioning of the PS2 impending Genesisification is the important question, but putting a date on it is difficult, and it will be a VERY long time before the system is outsold. There is something like a 20 million unit gap between the PS2 and the Xbox/GC. Besides, you seem like a timid console purchaser, so the best advice is to bet on a winner, and people often find like the extra DVD player is nice for the bedroom or whatever. If you have console friends, then the PS2 also pays off here for borrowing games and controllers and whatnot. Also, if your friends are sports fans, they'll bitch and moan if you try to make them play Madden on a CRAZY Xbox controller (SO BIG OMG!). But then here's me playing NHL 2K3 on Xbox Live... And there is that new Halo Xbox bundle... Clearly we need to know more about you, Mark. What do you like to play? Friends? What do they like to play? Do they have any consoles? Everyone stand back for the diagnosis!
