It is funny to read posts I made back in 2018, I have learned so much since then. Up until this week, I have a system going where I was able to take a Korg minologue Xd and either use it by itself or use it as a MIDI controller for a Behringer Model D and create sound. I have some demos that I have passed around, they are fine for what I was trying to do. I use Ableton, and it's absolutely unbearable from a UX perspective. I have chatGPT in a browser window, and when I inevitably get to a spot where Ableton should be letting me do something, I bang against chatGPT until I can get it to work. Ableton has the worst UX of any program I have ever used in my life. I have a friend on JC (Aardvark) who keeps telling me to use Mixcraft as a DAW. I worked a second job at a startup in like 2017 and 2018. I didn't do it because I was part of the r/Overemployed movement. I did it because I wanted more money than the day job I left was giving me, and then the day job I took because the first day job would not give me a raise. I went to an office for the day jobs. It was truly a "I am going to work 9 hours at an office, come home and work 4 more" thing. Unlike the Overemployed thing, where I believe they are working two jobs simultaneously and remotely. I had a few thousand dollars from this startup socked away, and I finally dipped into the last of it and bought a used Deckard's Dream. I'm happy with this exchange of money for services 8 years later. The DD was shipped with the cards out and zip-tied. The audio out port does not work. So I was in DIY mode from the get-go. I am trying to find a local electronics whiz to help me figure out the issue. The phones jack DOES work and I can hear beautiful music and I have recorded some with it, into a Behringer UMC22 audio interface. I have all the grown-up toys for this thing. I am hinting to my wife that I'd love piano lessons for Christmas, but if not, I will just get some anyway. Seeing how things map to programming is fun. I had ideas for games in my head years ago, but I could not program. I learned how to program. I was able to make those games. Now, Hugo the IF programming language does not hold me back. It took a long time, but I can do whatever I want inside it. I have ideas for songs in my head, I have the equipment and now it's just the learning to play the instrument which is holding me back. But it's fun, this is all fun. There are things I want to try. I want to try the thing where you take a wire in a Model D and connect it to itself or an outside source. Someone made a MIDI Sniffer program for DOS and I have both a PICOGus and the gameport / MIDI in and out card thing going around: [bluesky id="https://bsky.app/profile/1bit.bsky.social/post/3m3xbjbkkab2t"] I should also be able to have the PCjr output sound into the Model D. (Well, I have done that, but it doesn't do anything with the PCjr sounds - yet). All of this a lot of fun. None of it matters if the songs are bad, but getting the connections going and all this equipment speaking to itself is fun on its own.
