I haven't seen V since I saw it for the first and only time on free TV with commercials, I think. You may be right. I will go to bed thinking about this. On the last day of my father's life, he was in a hospital because he had been so run down for 2 weeks. On his last day, he had a heart attack and a stroke and had flat lined for 2 minutes before they brought him back. As his oldest, I met with his doctor after they called to tell us what happened, to try to "manage" what came next or whatever. I had to be strong for my mother and little brother. The doctor said they could operate and there was a 5% chance of "success," and success meant he'd be hooked up to a machine for whatever the rest of his life was. He'd never drive again (his passion) and, hell, he was dead for two minutes, who knows what he'd be like if it worked, which it wouldn't. As I came to the decision to let him go, I will admit that I was thinking of Leonard McCoy in Star Trek V when he said, paraphrased, "two weeks later, they found a damn cure!" I wasn't thinking of some French kids getting fridged. I don't think a movie can be that bad when you think about it on the worst day of your life. (I made the only decision possible, some things are meant to stay science fiction.)
