I have a "hot take" about the future of humanity.
Only 10% of the electric power to an incandescent light bulb produces light; the remaining 90% produces heat. If only 10% of human brainpower produces thinking, what is the other 90% supposed to produce? The answer is simple: fire. Human evolution has long been entwined with our use of fire, to the point that it has shaped everything from where we live to how we digest our food. Some scientists even believe the most descriptive name for our species would be "fire apes." Why then is it such a fanciful notion that evolution might eventually bestow upon us the ability to CREATE fire with our otherwise uselessly massive brains? Think about it, what purpose did the eyeball serve before it was an eyeball, or the little tail that spins around like a propeller on certain microscopic lifeforms before they were able to swim with it? Sometimes, nature has a plan that doesn't reveal itself until it crystallizes into an incredible power we could never have imagined. I don't know if there are people currently setting fires with their minds, but I think we as a population must be at least 98 or 99% of the way there.
