My favorite dog ever was a Weimaraner we had when I was a teenager. She had amazing natural instincts but was otherwise as dumb as a brick :D Very much like your dog it sounds like. Re: solid skulls, she'd be under the table and the doorbell would ring and she'd stand up so suddenly that the entire table lifted an inch off the ground. This was a heavy fucking dining-room table.
