You could probably wring some hours of enjoyment from it, if you were a bored child or institutionalized adult. That's more than can be said for a lot of 8-bit games. The problem with SMB2 is not that it's terrible, but that it's a not-remotely-must-play NES game, which still inevitably shows up in every must-play NES games thread (if not individually, then lumped in with the actually good Marios). That's what makes it overrated. Dragon Warrior is not as overrated as SMB2. The only person posting Dragon Warrior in a must-play NES games thread is one nostalgic middle-aged Japanese man, and even then he's going to call it Dragon Quest and have some caveats. An actual challenger for SMB2 would be something like Dr. Mario - the kind of game that might make someone new to the system think it was honestly the best we had back then, when in reality it was always a poor man's Tetris. I believe Trog! is an underrated NES game. Not because it was great, but because I would rather have it to play in my prison cell than The Legend of Zelda, and yet to my knowledge no one has ever recommended Trog! over The Legend of Zelda. If I could save enough cigarettes to have an Android phone smuggled in for me, I wouldn't care which mediocre NES game I had, because I wouldn't have to play either. If you gave me the choice of an Android phone that had never even been in someone's rectum then The Legend of Zelda looks that much worse.
