You're leaving out some context here, buddy.

after softening Crowder up by asking him about his wife's recent medical episode, Ethan cut away to Sam Seder.
Steven Crowder is the "change my mind" college campus meme guy. He's got a long history of doing ambush debates himself. He was briefly on Fox News, but was fired for being less funny than Greg Gutfeld. Sam Seder was a comic actor among the Mr. Show crowd in the late 90s who started doing a show on Air America with Janeane Garofalo, found he liked it, and took the show online after Air America closed down. He's also the voice of Hugo on Bob's Burgers. What Steven Crowder might find intimidating about Sam is that he is constantly debating right-wing academics and politicians, and his phone line has no screener, so he's a little more experienced at this sort of thing than the teenagers on their way to class that Crowder is used to. Sam has debated right-wing figures at Politicon in the past, such as Charlie Kirk. In 2018, Sam Seder was scheduled to debate Steven Crowder, but Crowder backed out at the last minute. Sam Seder provided written and audio proof that the Politicon organizer said Crowder "got cold feet" and that Crowder's booker was his dad. Politicon subsequently confirmed the veracity of the tapes in a tweet. This has led to the #coldfeetcrowder. A little while later a post-proud-boys Gavin McInnes was trying to rebrand himself as a centrist and was setting up a political debate show where lefties and righties would debate with himself as moderator. He offered Sam Seder the chance to debate Steven Crowder, and once again Steven Crowder backed out at the last minute. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. The H3 podcast talked about Crowder and the H3 producer said Crowder should stop being a pussy and debate Sam Seder. Steven Crowder challenged H3's host Ethan Klein to a debate, openly saying he expected the debate to be a "layup" because Ethan openly admits he's not a politics guy. The H3 podcast contacted Sam Seder to jump into the debate that was originally scheduled for two weeks ago. That Monday Sam Seder's show started and ended early so he could jump in to the call, but Crowder once again dropped out at the last minute, making the excuse that he supposedly had to take his wife to the hospital. People speculated that he was monitoring Sam's show and guessed that since the show was ending before his debate, Sam was likely to jump in. So Sam Seder pre-taped his show for last monday so it would run at its normal time. Crowder actually connected with Ethan this time now that the coast seemed clear. Ethan made a joke about the "Spartan" product Crowder was hawking with a joke about the actual Spartans practicing man-boy love, then cut to Sam Seder. Crowder panicked, cut the feed to his cohost, then rapidly started screaming insults while Sam calmly asked him to talk about topics like the CDC and Big Tech. Among other things, Crowder admitted that he HAD been monitoring Sam's show the previous week. Finally after 15 minutes Crowder disconnected. It was glorious! The online right has been White-Knighting for Crowder since then, making the excuse that Sam Seder was a dishonorable cad whose appearance went beyond the pale and totally excused Crowder fleeing the debate, even though he pretty much built his online clout off ambush debates himself.
