Just read Dune for the first time
Which is partially why I was so amazingly NOT AVAILABLE during vacation. Although most of the reading went on after the server was irrevocably killed, the fact is that I read the book front to back in the course of two and a half VERY socially jam-packed days. Then I spent the next two days rereading certain sections. What a fucking amazing book. Absolutely unlike anything I've encountered before - a book with the scope of Tolkien that doesn't suck AND isn't dry as fuck. Kickass. There's a sort of practical, believable magic system of a kind introduced into a sci-fi setting and if you get into the book it's . . . almost believable. Like the kind of shit you always suspected might be possible with enough concentration or practice. Wholly unlike the usual completely mystical and supernatural bullshit shoveled out of the dung heap yet again into every fantasy novel. Frank Herbert has shown me what a pile of shit every Orson Scott Card novel is, and for that I owe him a gigantic sucking off. HLAGULAHGGLAUGHULAG, --SB
