The answer is a happy, “No!” Running on XP the 9700pro drivers behave like good citizens and do their job and stay the fuck out of trouble. As for the second part of the question, nVidia’s are still several lightyears ahead in terms of options and tweakability. ATI apparently realized no one wants a thousand broken applets that hook into the kernel and break upon first reboot.
