Re: The prequels and sequels suffered the same fate as Game of Thrones:

Unfortunately for him Roger Corman already called dibs on a sci-fi Seven Samurai with (a significantly lower budgeted) Battle Beyond the Stars: (special effects by James Cameron. No, really!)
Wow, so I guess it was Cameron who designed the infamous boobship. I remember wondering who made that, long before the Internet existed to look it up. Here are some neat pictures I found of Cameron painting mattes for the film.
The planet Akir and its inhabitants, the Akira, a peaceful alien race at the center of the battle, were named in honor of director Akira Kurosawa.
Subtle. I remember seeing this film in the early 1980s and being blown away by the optical effects, and it still looks good all these years later in that HD Youtube trailer. James Horner did the score, which is OK, but sounds a lot like everything else he wrote. That was kind of an issue with him. As Star Wars cash-ins go, this was probably at or near the top of the heap. It's actually a pretty fun film, but the campy mood really clashes with the ending, especially if you're a kid who never heard of the Seven Samurai. I think even the talking ship dies! I heard that Lucas still hasn't sent the Library of Congress an original print of Star Wars for archiving purposes. He tried to send them the Special Edition instead, the crazy fuck. You don't get to retcon reality, George!
