From a videogame perspective, it's a very satisfying weapon to use.
It's also not a type of weapon that really existed in shooters prior to the late-'90s/early-'00s glut of solemnly realistic WWII FPSes, because it would've been TOO GOOD and made all the others redundant. It's typically depicted as a high-damage, pinpoint accurate semi-automatic rifle; but unlike gamified sniper rifles with similar qualities, there's no excessive delay between shots, and no scope to get in the way of running and gunning. The M1 Garand in videogame form is perhaps most similar to Counter-Strike's Desert Eagle, only with a high-capacity 10-round magazine (that can be quickly reloaded by stripper clip) and less boisterous sound design. (Speaking of sound design, the iconic typewriter "ping" when a clip automatically ejects after you fire the last round is just cool as hell.) The real M1 Garand is old-fashioned shit, and you should apologize in advance if you plan to use one for your next mass shooting.
