Forum Overview :: Gamerasutra :: RPS ganging up on college kids and high school students for Mordhau
Mordhau is a melee fighting game created by a bunch of high school and college students. What the gaming journalists are doing to them is downright disgusting as they see red meat to pounce on, because they have been lying, judgmental shits for decades and the creators of Mordhau are new to this. To that end: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/07/04/mordhau-dev-statement-clarifies-no-plan-for-character-filter-say-artists-were-ill-informed/
they planned to introduce a toggle to hide women and non-white characters from their medieval murderfest. Those claims, I should say, were made by Triternion themselves, in an interview between two of the company’s artists and PC Gamer. The official statement says that they never had plans for a toggle on non-white characters, that they discussed but dismissed the idea of a toggle to hide women characters, and that the two artists were “were ill-informed of this decision.”
Wow, you guys really rallied the troops to give these kids a hard time. Can you imagine that 11 kids may not be on the same exact page when it comes to their plans? Graham Smith of RPS can't. Smith really, <i>really</i> wants you to believe that it was made "by Triternion themselves" because he thinks you're too stupid to have the innate understanding that a loosely organized group of twentysomethings and teenagers act 100% like a hardened golem when it comes to messaging.
“First and foremost, Triternion does not, nor have we ever, had plans to add a customization option that would force a white male default,” it says. “This is an absurd idea that stems from a misunderstanding in a recent interview by PC Gamer with two of our artists. These artists, both uninvolved with character development went into a verbal interview with minimal PR experience and ended up answering some of the questions in a misleading way, which combined with a lack of context, led to some very controversial statements.” OK, fine. It’s good that they don’t plan on having a toggle on characters because they’re afraid some of those characters would annoy sexists and racists.
Oh fuck you, you sanctimonious piece of shit. Your gang is never, ever going to buy the game so shut the fuck up regarding what is "fine." And I thought you just said that the group stated they WERE going to hide those kinds of character models? Did you not just say that the paragraph before? So if you are aware that different people in a given group can think differently, why didn't you demonstrate that understanding one paragraph earlier?
“The responses given were referring to the gender part of the questions, which were based off an old controversial ‘gender toggle’ idea, with the intention being to give the player options to play the game with only female characters, only male characters, or both.” Less good. PC Gamer updated their original story with longer quotes, including the questions they asked,
Haha, Smith really does think he is the final arbiter of taste on what, again, some kids are making. Nice of PC Gamer to hit them with a second blast, by the way. Comments are the typical reprehensible RPS shit:
Pogs04/07/19 3:37PM I don’t get it. Any online game with a chat system should know that they sadly may attract a ‘toxic’ element particular in these competitive games. They should be set up from day one to have mechanisms to deal with it. Similarly in their forums. You don’t let these things fester and take hold and then try to pull back on it. You do it from day one. No excuse end of.
THEY HAD A FUCKING MUTE BUTTON YOU PIECE OF SHIT. "Pogs" was never going to buy the game, never going to play it, doesn't know anything. You can mute anyone who offends you which in this case is literally the entirety of the external world. "No excise"- there's no excuse to be this fucking ignorant about literally everything, but RPS assholes do it anyway. I couldn't care less about the gameplay of this one, but I am buying it because fuck these smug, condescending shits at rockpapershotgun. What's great, aside from the fact that these sites clearly have another mailing list or Discord server where they coordinate these attacks, is that if Mordhau does off to a further extent than it did, these leeches will be right there running articles about strategy and tactics to get their clicks - they did it with RimWorld. After posting this package of lies ("code analysis!") https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/11/02/rimworld-code-analysis/ - they went right back to articles on RimWorld for play like nothing happened. Smith is the worst EiC of RPS and it took him about two weeks. Leave these fucking kids alone, you piece of garbage.
