I'll defer to your expertise when it comes to Street Fighter.
It's probably a lot more like Virtua Fighter by now than I was giving it credit for. When I think of SF, I still think of two Old Sagats screaming the T-word over and over again. Even just one character with Old in his name should've been a clue I was out of touch, let alone two! Let's get back to how great Doom is. <img src="https://i.imgur.com/maDBpbR.gif" width=960> I know I've got some pretty strong mental association going on, but this screenshot speaks to me. It says a series of dunts, as from an electric guitar, followed by the squeals of dying demons and also an electric guitar. It's a shame we never got a polygonal Doom that was faithful to the original's 2D gameplay, the way the (good) polygonal Street Fighters were to Street Fighter II. Where is the New Super Mario Bros. of Doom? I guess that's what Doom 64 was, and nobody bought it. Westerners are too quick to abandon what worked in pursuit of the next big thing. They need to learn to value the old ways, like how American Ninja had to learn to balance teacups on his thighs.
