Counterpoint: none.
Actually I thought of a counterpoint, but it's going to require a trip into the hypothetical alternate reality where Gwyneth Paltrow walked face first into her sliding door, so get ready for that. I think Bizarre Creations would've been better off selling to Microsoft instead of Activision. They'd probably still be around today, making Forza DLC, or assisting on Forza DLC, or something demeaning like that, instead of shuttered after a single bomb. (It's been ten years this month since Rare released their last 'real' game, and they've all still got jobs. Which has to count for something, surely?) If Microsoft really had their finger on the pulse of gamers, and I'm just going to pause here to let any passing Rock Paper Shotgun editors finish mentally stabbing condescending adjectives into the sweaty, spittle-soaked and Doritos-encrusted space before pulse, they would've realized they could get a bigger PR bump from buying Chris Avellone instead. Bear in mind, this is all coming from someone who's never played an Obsidian or inXile game, and whose favourite Syndicate was the 2012 FPS, BTW. I thought the original Syndicate was a brilliant idea executed poorly, exactly the sort of more fun in theory than practice experience that always pops into my head when I think about getting back into PC gaming, while the reboot was a parodically terrible idea executed about as well as a dumb console shooter has ever been. I had almost as much fun playing the Syndicate reboot as I did poring over magazine screenshots of the original Syndicate, which is saying something!
