Re: Heh, I probably should have created a new thread.

I was just being kind of lazy, I guess. Anyway, I like this thread-- thanks for posting it. I think "synthwave" is the name for a lot of this 1980s-flavored music. Some of it is cyberpunk, but some of it is just vaguely nostalgic. I actually don't know anything about the scene. I was never really cool enough to be part of any musical scene, and I've become even less cool since then, if that's even possible. The scene is probably very nerdy, though, so maybe I would fit right in. A lot of this music is not very danceable. Maybe listening to it on your laptop on headphones really is the "proper" way to experience it, just like getting dressed up and going to a live performance is the right way to experience classical music. I've been finding almost all of this stuff on YouTube. A lot of musicians seem to be putting their synthwave stuff up on YouTube for the exposure. Or maybe someone else is-- it's not entirely clear. YouTube compresses everything, which tends to make classical or vocal music sound shitty, but works OK for synth. There's a lot of stuff out there, but a lot of it is also really bad. There are some gems out there, though. Gost has been growing on me. Also Volkor X and Carpenter Brut.
In the 1980's, I dreamed of one day posting to a globally interconnected BBS forum, and everybody would be listening to cyberpunk music in their cyberhovercars, and there would be all kinds of hot cyberchicks in hot cyberoutfits. And what do we get? Zoƫ Quinn going to some shady tattoo guy to put magnets in her fingertips.
