What do we have to look forward to if Republicans are beaten back, the likes of a Bo News <i>Freikorps</i> who now physically assaults "nazi sympathizers" instead of just doxxing them on social media? I mean fuck, when did "it is not okay to commit assault because of words" become such a controversial statement? This isn't a matter of dismissing entire waves of national protest because someone knocked over a trashcan at Berkeley. It's the deeply disturbing development that the side who used to demonstrate the strength of their ideals by defending the free speech of neo nazis is now calling for masked vigilantism and street justice against anyone who says things they don't like. I remember being horrified when my conservative relatives were bragging about a new law proposal that would make it a $1 fine for punching protestors burning the American flag ("I would smile to the cop, hand him a twenty, and go to town!"). Please explain how this "punch nazi faces" nonsense is any better, without falling back on "it's okay because their side did it longer". Since Mischief can only understand issues in the form of wacky youtube clips, I'm putting his response on hold until I can dig up the Louis CK clip where he makes the point, "It's never okay to hit someone because of words that come out of their mouth.
