I'm seeing an interesting contrast with how awkward it is for serial settings designed to tell a continuing story fumble it when they try to tie up all the loose ends instead of finishing with some sort of "the story will go on" ending. But on the other hand you have Star Wars which was literally designed around the hero's journey self-contained story skeleton and all the attempts to expand upon it have either been derivative to the point of redundancy or an absolute fucking mess.
